About our Speakers:

Kena Sears-Brown serves as Director of Continuing Professional Education & Workforce Initiatives at Goodwin College of Professional Studies. Kena oversees strategy, business development and operating budget at Goodwin College of Professional Studies.  Kena brings to her role at Drexel over twenty years of expertise in strategic planning and business development working with clients and partners in higher education, private and workforce sectors. Kena is an alumna of Penn State University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in communications and a master’s degree in business administration. Kena serves as Vice President of Workforce Development on The Philadelphia Chapter of The Society of Human Resource Management (Philly SHRM) where she oversees the development and implementation of programs that connect human resources and business leaders to workforce development, education partners and talent.

Dawn A. Bruno serves as the Vice President of Human Resources for McCormick Taylor, Inc., a full-service civil engineering firm that offers innovative design, planning, and environmental solutions primarily for the transportation and energy sectors. Her primary focus is on the company’s most valuable asset—its people. Key priorities include advocating for staff development and training, talent acquisition, and managing a comprehensive benefits program.  Dawn oversees all aspects of the employee experience at McCormick Taylor, from employee benefits to employee relations and retention.

About our Speaker:

Dana counsels public and private employers in all aspects of employment law and litigation, from employee policies to disputes over wrongful termination. She crafts employee handbooks, policies, and contracts and regularly advises clients on employment issues involving leaves of absence, wage and hour, discrimination and other workplace issues. Clients rely on Dana for day-to-day counseling on human resources matters such as hiring and firing, drug testing, workplace investigations, and family and medical leave. When disputes arrive, Dana litigates claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, breach of contract and unfair competition. She also defends clients before the EEOC, crafting position statements in support of employers. Her diligent approach to documentation—from initial pleadings and discovery requests and responses to settlement memoranda—helps protect her clients’ interests throughout litigation.

As part of her practice, Dana also assists clients with traditional labor matters, including representation before the National Labor Relations Board regarding decertification of election petitions and Unfair Labor Practice charge proceedings.

Prior to beginning her practice in labor and employment law, Dana served as a legislative assistant with the Pennsylvania State Senate and clerked for the Hon. Clyde W. Waite of the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas.
